Why sponsor my contributions?
Many people are surprised to learn that there is no single paid organization maintaining Drupal core. Instead, all the work to commit fixes, handle security advisories, and create new stable releases is managed by a team of trusted individuals across the community. These individuals are appointed through the Drupal core maintainer community governance and have to secure sponsorship for their work in various ways.
Sponsoring a core committer is in your organization's interest because:
- It is a high-impact investment in Drupal's future.
- It can provide mentorship and professional development for your team.
- It will improve your organization's reputation and leads.
For more background information, see my blog post on why you should sponsor a core committer.
You might be interested in sponsoring my contributions if:
- You want to help ensure Drupal core releases are safe, secure, stable, on time, and minimally disruptive.
- You want to give back to Drupal in a meaningful way, but you do not have the time or expertise to contribute to Drupal core directly.
- You want to improve your organization's placement in the Drupal.org services listing.
How does it work?
Base sponsorship rate for release management
If you commit to sponsoring a certain number of hours monthly for my core release management and governance work, the Drupal Association's Core Leadership sponsorship program guarantees you a base rate of about 5.5 weighted credits per hour sponsored. The credit will be displayed on your organization profile, and will be used for the Drupal services listing ranking during the next 12 months.
Sponsoring core issue contributions
If you sponsor me for at least 8 hours per week, this also supports my direct contributions to Drupal core issues. For the number of hours you sponsor each month, I will credit you in the Drupal issue contribution credit widget when I contribute to a Drupal issue.
Sponsoring security advisories
If you choose to sponsor my security work, I will track the hours you sponsor when I work on private security issues, and credit you when public Drupal security advisories are eventually issued for those private issues. In addition to the above benefits for your organization profile and services listing ranking, your company name will also be mentioned in the sidebar of the Drupal security advisory itself (discreetly promoting your organization as a sponsor of an important security update).
Drupal Certified Partner qualification
Sponsoring me will also help you qualify to become a Drupal Certified Partner. If you sponsor me for at least 8 hours per week for a full year, it is likely you will qualify for at least a Platinum Tier partner certification.
Rates
Sponsored contribution
My discounted rate for sponsored contribution at my sole direction is $100/hr. I focus primarily on release management, security, and the core queue of issues that are "Reviewed & tested by the community" and awaiting a core committer's review.
This deeply discounted rate relies on the fact that core contribution is a collaborative process, and that Drupal core issues often take numerous review cycles to resolve. As a result, my sponsors are credited together on issues during the hours they fund.
Mentoring and community consulting
I can also mentor you or your team on Drupal core contribution and similar topics for $200/hr. The hours that work best for me are 1600-0000 UTC between March and November, or 1700-0100 UTC between November and March.
Ongoing versus fixed-term sponsorships
Reliable, predictable funding for core release management is essential. Therefore, you have the option to sponsor me either for an ongoing contract (renewed automatically every three months), or for a guaranteed fixed term (for example, eight hours per week for six months).
Sounds great! How do I get in touch with you?
Contact me on Drupal.org if you're interested and I can send you a sample copy of my standard contract. You can also DM me on Drupal Slack with any questions (username @xjm).
What about smaller budgets?
If a full contract for my services is outside your budget, you can also sponsor me for smaller amounts on Patreon.
